Staging | Use Cases | Change tracking

Customer requirement

Objects are to be checked in and thus added to an export queue when a value list entry, translation, or similar is changed.

Challenges

Some affected attributes are not searchable (placeholders, formulas) and a comprehensive search query would be complex (combinations, value lists, reference objects). Otherwise, it would be easy to search for the objects.

Solution (summary)

  • Item Sync to Staging in searchable target attributes

  • Change values

  • Copy to PIM, and thus trigger check-in by maintaining fields in Staging (e. g., change date and note)

Required modules

Procedure

  1. Tag the required source attributes.

  2. Create the target attributes in Staging.

    • Single-line text

    • Language-dependent

    • Searchable with quick search and advanced search

    • Not inherited

    • Same external key as PIM attributes (!)

  3. Create the change-effective attributes, i.e., those that are to trigger the check-in by copying them to PIM, in PIM and in Staging.

  4. Item Sync from PIM to Staging. The transformation plug-in is currently customer-specific, but will soon be available in the standard version.

  5. Initially, you should synchronize the entire tree once. During operation, the filter can be restricted to specific objects.

  6. Once all data has been completely imported into Staging, the text / translation can be changed (value list entries, TMS entries).

  7. Prior to proceeding to the next step, the transfer to the PIM (translation queue) must be completed.

  8. Now search for the affected objects in Staging using the quick search or advanced search at the appropriate language level in Staging.

  9. Enter values for the change-effective attributes - either via bulk editing or Excel export and import.

  10. Tragen Sie Werte bei den änderungswirksamen Attributen ein - entweder über Massenbearbeitung oder Excel-Export und -Import.

  11. Only these two attributes are transferred to the PIM, triggering a check-in and adding the object to all corresponding queues.
Background explanation: Only changed and appropriately configured attributes are transferred from Staging. Therefore, the “Transfer to PIM” option alone is not sufficient.
